Sabbatical Programme 2010

Print PDF

This module is the foundation for all further modules as it involves a shift in our understanding of our world, about our place in it, how we belong together, who God is and where God is encountered.

We have a wide range of experienced lecturers who offer you different perspectives. We provide a good balance between lectures, discussions, private study, liturgy, private prayer and other opportunities to be creative. There are also some hands-on work in our Organic Garden and Farm as well as time to just relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Lectures are generally Mondays to Fridays with the weekends normally free. The cost of this 10 week Sabbatical is €4200 and includes - all lectures, most rooms are private en-suite, use of private telephone (telephone cards available to buy) one organic Main Meal a day Monday to Fridays, (all other meals are self catering as are the weekends). We also have available great Kitchen and Laundry facilitiies, free broadband internet and an excellent Reference Library.

If you are looking for something really worthwhile to explore  this may be your opportunity to come to 'The Garden of Ireland' and join us on this very popular ten week course in spring or autumn  Places are limited  so early booking is advisable

Read what Paula Buckley, one of our previous Sabbatical Students, had to say about her experience here with us in the beautiful surroundings of An Tairseach:

Over the past ten weeks in An Tairseach I have moved from a feeling of being a wayfarer on the Earth to a sense of deep connection with the Earth. Each morning as I pull back my curtains, my eyes are drawn earthwards to the Cosmic Garden and the vegetable garden. Both fill my spirit with a song of praise and gratitude for the new day.

The vegetables, herbs and fruit trees have shared themselves generously with us. Now is the beginning of their sabbath as they and the earth rest awhile. The cattle and sheep have moved indoors for the winter, the hens and cock make their presence felt and Fiona the sow with her brood is not to be outdone in making her contribution to the earth symphony.

The birds that have sung to us all through the autumn are now quiet or have moved away; the robin still sings her little heart out. My sense of oneness with all of this part of creation confirms for me Brian Swimme’s view that “…we are kin and cousin to all forms of life”.

All is beautiful to behold, to smell, to touch, to hear but also to taste. As a mother provides for her young, so does our Mother Earth provide for us. In doing this she has a gifted midwife in Ethna who with love, respect and gratitude transforms the fruit of the earth into a nourishing meal for us each day.

The reverence with which the meal is prepared and served permeates the food and ensures the nourishment of the earth is given in abundance. May we continue to care for the earth which cares for us with such love!
